Soon to first time home owner . Have a question on home owner's insurance.

I have my auto insurance with Geico and had planned to go with them for home insurance too.....It was quoted $200 less compared to a quote from All State (since I had auto insurance for 2 cars with Geico).

I just realized when I saw the final set of papers that the home insurance is really through a company called ASI Lloyd and not Geico directly. I am being told Geico does not offer homeowners insurance directly. Homeowners Insurance, Home Insurance, Property Insurance Availability | ASI

$700 for a new home for $265K dwelling coverage, 1% deductible.....the line items were more or less similar to what I had from All State, so I am less concerned about the annual premium. (see attachment).

But any reason to be concerned with ASI? Anyone with good/bad experiences or better recommendations? I looked up online and found a few posts but nothing concrete.
I was just a little confused on seeing a different company's name since I thought i was dealing with Geico and have no idea who ASI is since I am new to home owners insurance.

Thanks for any input.

Look here - Texas Dept of Insurance consumer page. You can compare policies and rates, and even drill down to see complaint rates. ASI's compaint rates were in line with Traveler's and Farmer's, worse than State Farm's

ASI provides "branded" homeowner products for a number of auto-centric insurance companies (Geico and Progressive are their big two partners). They have some pretty tight underwriting and write on a fairly standard HO-B form - with 15+ years in the industry, I can tell you that they're solid.

More important than the carrier, I'd advise to double check some of the "extra" coverages you'll find on Texas HO policies, since most folks think these are included. Specifically, make sure you have:

Replacement Cost coverage for both your roof and personal contents. (You're in central TX, Hail isn't "if", it's "when". A new roof will be 4X your deductible.

Water/Sewer Backup - see, Mold.

Mold Remediation - See, Texas - Mold Claims

Make sure you review the limits on items like jewelry or any rare/collectible/computer items. Many of the basic limits on these were established years ago and may have $2,500 limits unless they're scheduled.

Do you have a dog? Make sure this was disclosed. Do you have a pool? Same deal.

Texas has a fully dysfunctional homeowner's insurance market created by the combination of bad weather risks, weak regulation and predatory service folks. I'd strongly suggest shopping that HO insurance rate on an annual basis, and staying away from the 3 highest priced carriers while doing so (State Farm, Farmers, Allstate) - these three have taken an absolute beating on losses over the past ten years, and their pricing reflects this.

Thank you to both of you for your input. Decided to go with ASI since i am under a bit of time constraint and overall the policy looks good.

EzPeterson, thanks so much for all the details. Was very useful.
