On my trip back home from San Antonio, I want to drive on old hwy 90 from Seguin to Houston. We have always wanted to do that. My wife and I like to drive the old roads. Is there anything I should avoid, be aware of. Safety is our main concern. We are in our late 60's.

I haven't driven that route in a long time, so I wouldn't really know what to tell you. Sorry! I hope someone else chimes in for you though. I'll see if I can find out anything.

All I can think of is two lane country highway, animals in the road, slow drivers keeping you from passing, and speed traps.

So, I googled it and it actually seems like it would be a nice alternative if you want to stay off of the major freeways. It does offer access to the freeways at certain points, but you don't have to take them. It seems safe enough from what I read. I absolutely LOVE taking alternative routes to get places

No, actually some of the websites say that they have done some work on it and it does open up to four lanes in a lot of areas and they added on/off ramps too.

Thanks for all the comments. As I said before, my wife and I like to take the old highway sometimes and pass thru the small towns and get a feel of them and the activity in other areas. You see and learn so much more that way and it is always more interesting and so much to see than on the interstate.

I love the small towns too. I really love to see towns that have preserved or restored a town square. Actually we have driven about 1/2 of highway 90 on that route due to a big accident on I-10 when we were returning from the Hill Country to Houston. I think we turned onto 90 around Columbus. Not much there.

Columbus and Schulenburg are decent stops if you like small town downtowns. Schulenburg is supposed to have a set of painted churches that are popular to see. I particularly liked tiny Fayetville. It looks like it could be the set of the Andy Griffith show. But those are the opposite direction of your route. Same for Bellville. Nice town square. Cat Spring is very pretty in the spring, but not much there otherwise.
