LOL - Good point!

[quote=cleoT;2008573]But this thread is about a Texans definition of Yankee, not yours. So, I guess, according to the Texans in THIS thread, you are a Yankee. quote]

Here is an interesting little test to take which reveals where certain words are most commonly said (don't be put off by the title, it really is interesting in relation to the word usage of each region):

Are You a Yankee or a Rebel? - alphaDictionary * Southern Accent Test

I scored a 76% Dixie

97 - 100% Dixie here!

By way of explanation, the two different scores are tied into a question which has a couple of confusing answers. That is "Do you pronounce "cot" and "caught" the same?" The possible answers are "yes", "no", "caught=kawt" and "don't know." Welllll, I pronounce "cot" as it sounds, and "caught" as "kawt". Soooooo, for me (and I imagine many Texans) there are two "correct" answers! That is "no" and "caught = kawt"! Which one to pick???? LOL Anyway, for funsies, I calculated my score using both, and one made the score 97, and the other 100!

There are several other questions that are bit difficult to answer (although they didn't affect the score any). For instance, the "cold cut sandwich" question. Well, I grew up calling it a "po' boy" (which was very common useage in Texas and other parts of the South before the days of so many chain restaurants and related nationwide television ads) but today I usually just call it a "sub" just because the term has become so widespread and common. So, I really wasn't sure which way to go at first. Oh well, I finally settled on "sub"!

BTW -- if anyone noticed, there is a link to an "advanced" test at the end of the page:

Are You a Yankee or a Rebel? - alphaDictionary * Advanced Southern Accent Test

I got a 100% Dixie on this one, but again, there are some questions where the answers are very close and you have to think on how REALLY do it. Several of them, in fact, should have a choice where you can "interchange" as the answers are so close. For instance "real good" and "really good". Well, I say both!

Anyway, I have rambled long enough. This would be a good one for the "Texas Accent" thread as well.

I got 86 on the advanced and 91 on the regular one. I was expecting my answers to be way lower since I mainly grew up on military bases in Europe. But I have heard that there is a Southern flavor to some bases because of the numbers of Southerners who join the military. Or at least whenever I was growing up.

Yes, I saw that new2sa...very interesting. By the way, don't fret your score, I really do think there are some problems with the possible answers and the way they are rated!
