Can anyone give me some information on Coke County? My husband and I are thinking of moving out of CT and want to live in a small, quiet town with not a lot of neighbors. We love the idea of having a lot of land, but don't like humidity and hate bugs. Any info would be great!

The county seat of Coke County is Robert Lee, a tiny (1100) ranching/oil/gas town that is pretty conservative. Other towns include Bronte, about the same size...and three smaller communities: Blackwell (360), Silver (60) and Tenneyson (35)

It gets an average of 23 inches of rain a year (in a good year). Being West Texas, the humidity is not going to be as high as most of the rest of the state. It's not desert, but it is semi-arid, mostly flat with some small rolling hills, as well as some trees and scrub growth. There are bugs everywhere in TX.....but it's not as bad here as in wetter parts of the state to me. It gets awfully hot in the summer.....temps over 100 for days running is not unusual. Winters are often very mild. Might get snow and ice for a couple of days every once in awhile....and the next day, it will be gone and back up into the 50s and 60s, or higher. The elevation ranges from 1700 to 2600 ft.

If you want isolation, you got it. There isn't very much there in any of the communities.

There are hunting and fishing/boating (Lake Spence) activities, though.

The nearest large cities are San Angelo (37 miles) and Abilene (75 miles). You can get good medical facilities, restaurants, car repair, groceries, entertainment and just about anything else you'd need in these two larger cities.

But you'll have to do some driving.
