My girlfriend is from Indiana originally and she thinks IN is more conservative when all factors are taken into consideration. You have a little more liberalism in terms of attitudes towards unions, but otherwise, IN is probably more traditionally conservative whereas Texas has a bit more of a libertarian conservative flavor.

That's her opinion anyway - take it for what it's worth.

Well...coming from the People's Republic of Minnesota, both seem relatively conservative to me...of which I am personally quite pleased.

That said, I would also guess Texas to be more Libertarian conservative, in my admittedly limited time here. Texas did elect Ron Paul for how many years? I could also see more of the "don't tread on me" mentality that seems to go hand in hand with Texas being "we do things our way and can leave the Union anytime we want" mentality.

Indiana by far.

Any outsider looking at Texan politics needs to understand that Texans, whether they are Democrat, Republican, or other, are known to have a strong libertarian streak in their politics which separates them from their co-party peers in the upper midwest. Even Texas' social conservatives have far more of a "leave me and mine to do what me and mine think is right" vibe to them than the "this is what God says everybody must do" brand of social conservatism one tends to find further north.

Conservative is a good thing. I'm glad Texas is a conservative state.
