There have been a succession of very minor earthquakes near Cleburne, possibly related to 'fracking' and drilling. They are nothing serious and mostly only detectable with instrumentation.

So what do all of you weather/erosion nerds think of our "little" 4.8 in South San Antonio?

Old thread but we've had a couple earthquakes that I know of here in Texas, one back around 94 and the other here recently in the last few months. Both happened early in the morning and barely shook the house. I just rolled over and went back to sleep.

This and other faults have already had activity, many years ago. Mexia and area had quakes in the 1970's. Alpine in 1995, Valentine Texas I believe in the 1930s. The Valentine earthquake I believe was in about the 6.0. Many earthquakes have happened in Texas over the years. Fracking is not causing this.

SVTRAY-Look at the USGS site for Texas quakes. Many quakes in Texas have occurred over the decades. The 94 and other quakes you mentioned are two of many in Texas over the decades.

The Balcones Fault line is an inactive fault. It runs underneath the State Capital bulding in Austin and now under the new City Hall. We checked it out carefully with geotechnical experts when we were planning the design of the new City Hall.
