Here's my take on it since I live in Temple. Both Temple and Belton are fast growing area's, in which you are going to meet people with different views of politics and religion. While the area is still highly Conservative and the religion leans more towards Southern Baptist, (mainly the older generation) you are still going to find all types of people with different backgrounds. As for the "redneck" comments you will find them scattered all across the country and not just in one place. Recently there has been an uptick transplants moving to the area. This is due to the Baylor S&W expanding, new retail centers and hotels popping up left and right and new Distribution centers that are calling Temple home.

No, but they are not shy about pushing issues to remake Texas into the image of the state they fled. It does get frustrating when you do your level best to welcome new people into your neighborhood, but still endure them starting nearly every sentence with "Buuuuut...in California....." after having lived in Texas for three years. The California transplants have made Austin nearly unrecognizable. South Congress, once a linchpin in the Austin music and culture scene, is a shell of it's former self, as a very tangible example of the impact of the CA migration.

And they are working on South Lamar, my old stompin' grounds, now. The Broken Spoke is now surrounded by condos - just waiting for the complaints about the music.
