How so?

I took my CHL class in Texas but not before signing up for a CHL class in Arizona. The class was slightly cheaper in Arizona and the wait time was less due to population size but I didn't encounter any difference as far as hoops go.

That must've been awhile ago because you don't need a license to carry open or concealed in AZ anymore from what I understand.
...as of July 29th 2010 anyway...

FWIW they still do issue permits apparently though....mostly for reciprocity reasons.

Moved here from NV, were surprised at the gun laws. Thought the reputation of gun friendly was true but found TX to be more restrictive than NV. Not just in the whole open vs conceal carry argument but also in the places that carrying is completely not allowed.

OP, I would say that Texas is NO LONGER as gun friendly as it used to be, mainly due to the influx of a lot of people who, however much they may like the stereotype of Texas from afar, really would prefer that it be a Disney version that is in reality a lot closer to what they're used to. Those are the ones who tend to be gun-unfriendly. (Not saying by any means that all of the influx of people feel that way - I know a lot of them and I know better, but there are sufficient and they are sufficiently determined to remake Texas in their state's own image that they get noticed a lot more than the ones that move here because they like Texas. It's the difference in attitude between immigrating to a state and attempting to colonize it.)
