We're back in Midland for the Holidays and I barely recognize the place. It's crazy, they built completely new neighborhoods. Los that was vacant for many years now have homes are business. The land in between Midland and Odessa alone side I-20 for example. This was wide open fields for decades. Now it's lined with oilfield companies. Speaking of, anyone know what their building next to the 1/8th mile track?

Anyhow, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Years.

East of Dallas, the relationship between Tyler and Longview is similar to that found between Midland and Odessa. And expect that particular area to really pep up as well as is the case with Midland / Odessa with much of the oil from the original huge oil pools still there from what was the vast East Texas oil field.
Like Midland, there are supposed to be lots of old money millionaires in Tyler. Like Odessa is with Midland, Longview is very blue collar but very dynamic and progressive in its relationship with Tyler.
However, Tyler will never have the skyscrapers of Midland with its close proximity to Dallas.

Yeah, good comparison. I think you right about the skyscrapers too, there won't be any 59 story buildings going up in Tyler with Dallas so close by.

The growth here is amazing. We just had another family member move out (to Odessa) and they were able to find a house within a week (after having one rented out from under them). Sure it is $1500 for a small odd barely kept up 3/2 but hey! LOL.

How long have you been away from Midland?

I don't know how long SVTRay has been away, but it's been over 6 years for me (Aug 2007), and it sounds like I won't recognize the place, LOL!

Several here (Alpine) who go to M/O have commented that the traffic has gotten so bad that they had just as soon not even go any more.

I'm going to have to make a trip sooner or later...and I'm not really looking forward to it myself. I will most likely have to spend the night, and having to pay over $200/night for a dump is irritating, but that's M-O. Just like anybody else, all market demand.

Oh, not that long ago. We moved a little over a year ago and this was the first time back minus a quick trip for a funeral. Anyhow, It's changed a lot in that short amount of time.

Their turning the parking lot on the corner of Main and Wall (next to Wall St Bar & Grill) into a small shopping strip for example.
