I do not understand the hostility directed at our booming areas. The hostility pre-dates the latest boom. I think it may be that the far West Texas desert is very unfamiliar to some. It can strike some as very barren or ugly.

I have not run into anyone here who hates it here. On very cold days, I can smell the oilfield smell. We do call it "the smell of money" and it is just part of the fabric of our lives and something we are familiar with. I never thought of Midland, where I am now, as ugly. I think the desert is very beautiful and austere. Of course all should be concerned that the environment not be polluted. Few realize that our ground water in this area is extremely salty, like an inland sea, which we once were covered by. It is still important to protect it as nature left it.

I hope all who come here find a good life. I love all areas of our country and world.

I love Texas and I love Andrews. I built and opened Holiday Inn here in 2009 just sold it and retired in another State. The "rotten egg" smell may be bad for the senses of some people but for the people here it is the smell of "money" honey, try without it ! People here and in Texas are generally friendly and will greet with at least "hello". Try that here in California !
