need help.....my daughter had a baby girl who is now 6 and started school, she has always been known with her mothers last name. however, she noticed when she registered her for school, the last name on her birth certificate has the same last name of the man my daughter was with at the time of birth. His name or information is not listed on the birth certificate, only my daughter's name and information.we live in texas

can anyone help!!!!!!! with knowledge of how to get her last name changed on the birth certificate .

Well if she's only 6 then she has a social security card with that same name (it's automatic now at birth).

You should send your daughter to go talk to a lawyer and not ask this on forums.

In Wichita County, we just went down to the county records office and had our daughters changed. Same deal.

I think the majority of people on here can't afford to run see a lawyer, that is why they are asking for help from perfect strangers. Make sense?

No... still doesn't. What happens when someone on here gives you bad legal advice and you wind up in a worse position because of it?

There are free legal clinics for people who can't afford it. Often times employers have a benefit of legal aid which provides a few hours of consultation at no cost.

I bet you will need a lawer on this one because of the mans last name on the birth certificate. You will probably need his permission to change it...

Did the hospital make a mistake? That would help if they did. But you will still need a court order for the change.
