My wife has severe, irreversable, unresponsive asthma. There is a new clinical study for treatment. Just wondering if anyone has any references.

We live in Dallas and her current pulmonologist told her there is nothing else he can do for her, and wants to refer her to a hospital in Denver, CO or Philadelphia, PA.

Just exploring any and all options.

For what its worth, Denver does have a very good medical and research center. I know how scary asthma can be. My mom has severe asthma and my daughter also has asthma.

Thanks for the info and best of luck to you and your wife.

I've been out of this field for over a decade, but wonder if this link may reap some reward.

Asthma Center (http://www.thoracic.org/sections/clinical-information/asthma/index.html - broken link)

That is one on the list to possibly visit this summer, The National Jewish Medical and Respitory Center. There is also one in Canada we are considering. Just thought there might be a pulmonologist in DFW worth seeing.

Default National Jewish Lung and Research Center - Denver

I have gone to the National Jewish Lung Research Hospital for many years. Other doctors had said there was not anything else that could be done. I have received excellent care at this hospital and would not be alive today if not for them. The doctor I had when I was in my early 20s wanted to me to go there, however, at that time I was too ill to travel. I moved to the southwest and got some better. I eventually moved back to the Midwest and was given the news of no prognosis and nothing could be done. National Jewish will do right by you and your wife. I hope this finds you in time. May God be with you and yours.
Beth

have you considered seeing someone at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas? Since it is a teaching hospital, there are very advanced resources available there...and most doctors seeing patients are top in their field...and are teaching other doctors

Thanks for your replies.

Since I first posted this, we've had several things happen, and for the better.

We planned a trip to Denver and a few months before, my wife's Dr. suggested she stop taking Advair and try Spiriva. As it turns out, she was reacting adversely to the Advair. Since using Spiriva, her lung functioning has improved 20% in less than a year.

Seems that about 1-2% of asthmatics have adverse reactions to Advair and she's one of them. So hopefully things will continue to improve.

I sent you an email with information about National Jewish. Look for it in your spam, it will start out with mb..... and the address continues from there.
