Anyone care to rebut this op-ed piece that appears in the
El Paso Times newspaper?

Texas as seen by a non-resident.

Since you didn't include a quote that sums it up, I will.

Quote:
Cattle, cowboys, urban cowboys, rhinestone cowboys, rich cowboys, Dallas Cowboys, barbecue, chili, tornadoes, Border Patrol agents, Alamos, former U.S. presidents, grassy knolls, armadillos, horned toads, sidewinders and coyotes. And don't forget the reconquista.
IMO, the rest of the column was discussing how the writer isn't a Texan and outlines his meager qualifications for defining the state. If all you really know of the state is El Paso, I imagine your view is going to be skewed.

Other than 20 minutes I once spent in the ELP airport making a flight connection, I haven't been to El Paso. That's why I wouldn't presume to define the place. This writer probably shouldn't have attempted to define the whole state of Texas, either.

Purely a cute humor piece...nothing to "rebut!"

I'm having a problem understanding what the point of it was.

What watchful says...I could probably write an article like that and act like I know all about New Mexico or Oklahona or Arizona or Arkansas, just because I live in a nearby state.

It slammed El Paso and Texas in a very underhanded way, passed off as humor. I would doubt the writer is a native Las Crucen, either, because LC and EP are very bonded.

That article wasn't worth the pixels it was printed with.

Wholeheartedly agree. The El Paso Times should be roundly chastised for printing such tripe that does nothing to enhance El Paso's reputation.

All I saw was a rather pointless article--VERY heavy on the sarcasm--that did little else than take up space. It's as if the writer were grasping at straws to meet a deadline, and couldn't think of anything better.

It's very thinly-veiled put-down couched in sarcasm and satire.

I don't think there was supposed to be a point, other than to show people what Texas seems like to a second grader writing a report. I thought it was...well...cute.
