Depends on who you ask, and depends on what industry your job is in.

If you are in the field of Education, most cities would work, especially bigger cities along Austin and Bryan-College Station.

Are you wanting to move here? If so, a lot of the cities meet your criteria. Help us help you, we need more specifics to know which is the best for you. Otherwise, I don't see this thread being very helpful at all.

When asking questions about a location, give as much detail as you can, so we can zero in on the info you need. If house hunting, what is your price level or rental amount. How many BR's, Baths, square feet, lot size, etc, do you need? Pets? SFH, TH, Condo, mobile home? In-town, rural, college town, military town, mountains? Schools for children? Gated community, golf course community, active senior community? Do you need to stable a horse? Is there an RV or boat trailer to consider? The more you tell us, the sooner our regular posters can reply with specificity. Same for any other criteria you have. Please avoid open-ended requests like "I'm moving to your city, tell me EVERYTHING I need to know."

I am a single white male in mid-20s who is interested in attending graduate school in Texas. I happen to have M.S. Degree so I would like to teach at a community college while working on my doctoral study.

I happen to be moderate to liberal in my political views depending on the issues. I am religious (Assembly of God). I didn't know Houston has Joel Osteen and Lakewood Church until I began checking out Texas.

I prefer to rent 2 bedrooms/1-2 baths townhouse or duplex no greater than $900.00 monthly. It must be pet-friendly since I have two cats.

I enjoy attending both pro sport games and college games, watching plays and opera performances, and visiting museums of all types.

I also like water recreation such as swimming, sailing, and jet skiing. The area doesn't have to be very scenic but I prefer to have trees though.

I am a huge fan of ethnic food so diversity with a plenty of ethnic restaurants is a must so is friendly people since I am from the friendly state of Louisiana!

I am faced with a dilemma because the college program I am interested in is actually in Beaumont. Beaumont is very limited.

If scenery isn't important then DFW is probably the place for you. It has everything you're looking for, and while there are nice pockets here and there it's fairly dull from a scenery perspective.

Sounds like Houston to me. Central areas have the sports, museums, etc. and there is water recreation in the Clear Lake area and Conroe area. It also has a lot of big trees and is the most ethnically diverse and international in the state.

Houston seems like a better fit for you then Austin.

Houston is more diverse.

Houston had way better dining options.

Houston has more museums than Austin and its not even close.

Houston has better opera and arts in general.

Austin has more water but you can find it Houston.

Take a look at the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
I would think that you can follow a degree program at UTA (University of Texas at Arlington) - the State if putting a lot of money toward bringing into Tier 1 Status. UTA is the 2nd largest campus in the UT System and it's well regarded. There must be about a dozen Community colleges in the DFW area - both private and public. Dallas County Comminity college has at least 4 campus, Tarrant County has 5 - I counted them as only 1 each in my dozen.

Easy to find a rental as you describe in Arlington for under $900 .... rentals are very reasonable in Arlington. Lot's of sports in the area and lot of water sports. When you live between 2 large cities, you have the advantage of the culture of both - it's about a 20 minute drive from the center of Arlington to the center of Dallas or Fort Worth. You will find ethnic food and grocery stores all over the area - Arlington even has a good Russian cafe.

3 things you will find wherever you move to in Texas - your politics won't matter, your religion (or lack of) won't matter and the natives are friendly.

Most important thing is to figure out where you want to do to school, check on grants and establish residency. 2nd is to find a job. The rest will all work out. You are right about Beaumont - not much there and the drive to Houston is a bear, you don't want to be doing that on a regular basis.
