Austin gets plenty of +100 days. In fact, I believe we had 70 of them in one summer just a few years ago. And sometimes the night temperature does not get below 90/upper 80s.

Bottom line, Austin is just as hot or hotter than DFW. A little less severe weather and warmer in the winter is the only difference IMO.

As for the other questions by the OP, I agree with most of the above comments. In a nutshell, Austin is better for people who like the outdoors or the young culture, but you pay for it -- in higher rents and lower salaries.

Excellent answer. I agree 100%. Austin's beautiful, but you do pay extra and earn less as a result.

Many are. The stereotype is that of the $30K millionaire, all saddled down in debt and materialism. While that is there, there are plenty of people who don't fall into that. But if you want a bit more of an Austin-y vibe and less of a yuppie/frat vibe, you're probably better off in the Lower Greenville area, Deep Ellum (east of downtown), or North Oak Cliff (southwest of downtown).

Turn the microwave off when you go to sleep.

It was 105F or better exactly two days last year (105F one day in June, 106F one day in August) The hottest month was August with an average high of 99F.

Did you get the cities mixed up? Dallas runs cooler than Austin in the summers, because it's further north.

It was Austin at 105 this past summer in July, not Dallas.

Dallas Month Weather - AccuWeather Forecast for TX 75201
Austin Month Weather - AccuWeather Forecast for TX 78701

July 2013
Dallas : 5 days >= 100 degrees, highest temp 103 degrees.
Austin : 11 days >= 100 degrees, highest temp 105 degrees.

Since we are on the subject of weather would you say Dallas has a more bearable summer than Miami or South Florida? I know from experience it gets very hot and sweaty in South Florida almost takes your breath away . Is Dallas summer like that ?

I moved to Dallas from Miami after having lived in California before that. Hands down, California beats both for comfortable summers but that's no shock.

Miami is far more humid in summer than Dallas and gets a lot more rain. It rains just about every afternoon during a South Florida summer. Dallas summers are not as humid, rainy, and wet. Having said that, if you're coming from the West Coast or the mountain states, then Dallas summers will seem humid. But, compared to Florida or anywhere along the Gulf Coast, no.

Where Miami has Dallas beat is during the winter. South Florida winters are gorgeous. North Texas winters can range from OK with little to no snow/ice to kinda miserable with lots of cold days and a decent amount (for Texas) of snow and ice. But, compared to anywhere farther north, the winters aren't so bad. Your chance of getting snow/ice will be less in Austin.

I'm sorry by it does stay into the 80's overnight in Dallas. 2012 was a scorcher too.

I am in car sales at the moment selling Audi's which are popular in CT because of the all wheel drive. What Luxury car brands are popular in Dallas? BMW, Mercedes or Lexus? I noticed Dallas has a huge Lexus store (Sewell) is that a nice store??
