The Saks in the Galleria is the newest store in the chain, so that could be why McQueen has a large department/boutique. (I doubt that any more new/replacement stores are in the works within the next few years due to economic shifts.)

They probably had to open one in Dallas due to the 2 Saks closures. Neiman-Marcus is the H-E-B of Dallas!
Name a famous department store founded in Houston that still exists today. Something on the caliber of Neiman Marcus, Forty Five Ten and Stanley Korshak, which are all founded in Dallas. Go ahead, name it.

You are right. We did have Sakowitz which was pretty nice, but not as ultra as NM. Battlestein's was nice, too. But ... they disappeared during one of our boom-bust cycles.

I'm not sure what "NM is the HEB of Dallas" means. I rather like HEB in Houston, but it's not as fancy as their Central Markets stores. Of which DFW has 5 (I think) and we only have 1.

As you might guess, I'm a native Houstonian who also appreciates Dallas. My only complaint would be that Houston doesn't get enough credit from other Texans for the good things that it does have.

I was alluding to H-E-B's near monopoly in their hometown of San Antonio. Being in the DFW-Houston bubble, it's hard to believe that Kroger does not operate in the other two major metros. Any competition in S.A. was run out of town by homerism, which is a form of xenophobia, and the clannish mentality that enforces it. (Trying to buy a case of bottled water during a weekend trip in a grocery store--that is not H-E-B--is impossible anywhere in S.A.)

Saks leaving Dallas is similar to Kroger, Albertsons, et al. leaving S.A. since N-M is HQed in Dallas. Like H-E-B in S.A., brand loyalty to N-M runs deep in DFW.

What are you talking about? I only buy one kind of water and I have NEVER had a problem. (not HEB's brand)

Also would never equate brand loyalty to xenophobia.

Are you saying the LV Men's store is taking over the Ruti space?

Thought this was telling... more moderate TenOverSix is folding into Forty-Five Ten's first floor to help drive more traffic. Headington should never have pushed Brian Bolke out at Forty-Five Ten.
