Hi! I am moving from Gulfport Mississippi to Texas but I am unsure on what parts would be great for my four kids and far as the schools. So far I have Dallas Tx and San Antonio Tx in mind. What areas do you suggest people??? I hear San Antonio is a great area far as Medical Center, UTSA, Far North, Far North West, and North Central are all good areas far as schools etc. And the areas someone suggested in Dallas were Balch Springs, Mesquite, North Dallas, Plano, East Dallas, Grand Prairie, and Forth Worth. Please help me get to the bottom of this...thanks!!!!....very much confused lol By the way I am CNA so I prefer areas where their are a lot of CNA job opportunities and maybe around a lot of hospitals etc. Also I am currently attending school here at USM so what would be a good University or College to attend in the areas listed for Nursing program and around plenty to do for kids....thanks again and please list the best schools in the areas listed above I would really appreciate.

If you're a CNA then you should consider SA over Dallas; SA is cheaper and CNA pay isn't great.

You can Google nursing programs in San Antonio and Dallas yourself. Pretty much all of them are going to be good except for the ones at for-profit institutions and admission is going to be competitive to any RN program in either metro area. If you're going to spend the money and time getting your RN, I strongly recommend that you go for a BSN over an ASN. That will narrow your options considerably in terms of programs, but you'll have better career prospects when you graduate. Both areas have an abundance of hospitals/medical centers/clinics/etc.

You may also want to consider some of the smaller cities in Texas. Tyler has a booming medical industry and a low cost of living and some VERY good schools. I raised my four kids in Tyler and have no regrets.

Tyler is in northeast Texas on I 20 half way between Dallas and Shreveport (two hours from each). It's a nice small city with excellent schools, good shopping, and affordable housing.

And it's close but not too close to DFW.

Look at Denton. It is becoming a medical center for the northern areas.

Check out areas in north Fort Worth. Decent schools. There are many existing and planned medical facilities. It also has some of the most affordable housing prices in the Metroplex.

I say to finish your nursing school, and then move down. Otherwise, it's likely you will have to repeat a few classes due to the credits not transferring.
