Visited Galveston for Spring Break and the brown water, massive amounts of seaweed, and flatness left me highly disappointed. Nice historical city but the water was a deal breaker. I heard even South Padre Island isn’t worth the drive from the 4 big Texan cities which make up most of the state.

I’m not trying to bash. Houstonians are fortunate to be a close flight away to many wonderful Caribbean islands.

No. Also, Texans don't visit Galveston to enjoy the beach unless they are fishing.

I’m from Texas. No, as Texas is not known for its beaches

Galveston's brown water certainly impacts aesthetics negatively. But seaweed washes up on every beach, so it's a non-factor as far as issues go. The water flatness is present all over the Gulf of Mexico, because it's a nearly enclosed body of water, similar to the Mediterranean and Gulf of California.

Nevertheless, South Padre makes up for things by being the best warm beach destination in the CONUS outside of Florida.

Are you embarrassed to live in an earthquake prone state?

Why should we be embarrassed by something we can't control?

Although Houston has cleaned up the billboard trash around our city that is about the only thing I can think of that embarrasses me sometimes. And the occasional confederate flag flying in rural Texas...that embarrasses me too!

Brown water...nope!

No, I still think it's awesome just seeing the open Gulf, standing on the shore and turning my back on civilization. The rhythm of the waves, the Gulf breezes. I've spent a lot of time on Galveston Island it's better than no beach at all...

What a silly question. While nature can evoke many emotions, embarrassment is not one of them. Wind and currents determine the color of the water (and the seaweed) you are speaking of. Yeah sure, Texans are embarrassed by the wind, by the water currents. Just crazy silly. You would have to live in a make believe, fantasy world to be "embarrassed" of nature. You should really look up the definition of embarrassed.

Why would you visit Galveston for a beach experience? Ever since they had to put up the seawall there hasn't been much of a beach. Galveston is a great place to visit for other reasons but Texans know if you want to go to the beach you go to Padre.

We don't go barging into California forums and ask if Californians are embarrassed by _____.

No, and I am well aware that Texas beaches do not compare with Florida, Mexico, or the Caribbean. If I want sugar-white sand and turquoise water, those are the places I go.
