We probably need more info about the particulars. Will you be staying basically IN Louisiana all the time, or coming back and forth to Texas? How far away in LA? I mean, you are in Houston - are we talking about just over the state line or seven hours away? Do you have family who live near your home in Texas? Do you own your home in Texas or are you talking about subletting it?

I guess I'd just say that if you plan on moving back to Houston, maybe you shouldn't sell the townhome.

My friend has been doing this for five years. Is it single standing or attatched? is it payed off? if you plan on visiting weekly or every other week consider selling your home and buying 2 1000sq ft condos in the area. rent one out and keep the other for yourself for when you visit. you don't want to miss out on appreciation in Houston
