Hello all,

Joined the forum to seek some current information and recommendations on relocating to Laredo, TX. I am currently living in South Florida, but family moving to Laredo because of job opportunity, so might have to follow soon. Even though I am comfortable in FL, I have an open mind and adapt well and fluent in Spanish.

I did a search but some of the posts and threads were a bit dated. Mainly wanted some general tips on housing and area if possible. Also I see mixed reviews on safety and wanted to know the general concensus on the area. Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Jzl

Laredo is semi-arid.

I don't think much has changed since these previous threads:

Some ignorant people are quick to make negative comments about moving to Laredo, but many of the people who actually live there find it a great place to live for them and their families.

Laredo is not a bad place and it's growing so fast. The newer suburbs are north and North East. Depending on what you're used to in Florida, there are some nice suburban areas with the same strip malls and chain stores and nice new houses you will find in Florida or Houston or Los Angeles.

San Antonio and Corpus are your nearest big cities. San Antonio will offer the city amenities (nicer stores, better variety, big city, good touristy stuff) and Corpus has the beaches and.... uh.... beaches.

I like border cities. I like getting the news and tv/radio stations from mexico with the safety of being in the US. Nuevo Laredo has calmed down a lot too. That's not to say that it won't get worse though.

I have always figured Laredo would be a bad place but after reading this thread I now want to visit. Maybe I have been wrong all these years.
