Hello to all Texans reading this.

Like the thread title asks if you could give me suggestions as well as a studio/1 bedroom renter without paying a "mint" for a rental in a decent/safe area? I know that Texas is HUGH, but need to start somewhere starting with area suggestions.

Thanks so much for your anticipated assistance.

For your field, you'll find the most opportunities in the City of Dallas, followed by gage City of Houston and then the North Dallas Suburbs. The market for accountants in Austin was really only ever good when there was growth in state government and related agencies/lobbyists. That's just not happening these days. Otherwise, for the other major cities, San Antonio and Fort Worth, you're either looking at trying to get into a major corporation that's headquartered there or a defense contractor (so a lot depends on your area of expertise).

Hmm, that's good to know. My background is in oil & gas financial analysis and I was briefly considering relocating there. I have a phone interview with a recruiter tomorrow for an oil/gas accounting gig, but there are a zillion of positions just like it in West TX. That being said, I can't recommend Midland/Odessa to the OP b/c if he/she wants to live alone, that ain't happening at less than $1000 per month.

Thanks so very much for your responses so far, just letting y'all know that I'm here and reading everyone's input.

Please keep them responses coming!

And yes, as mentioned I wouldn't want to pay $1K plus per month rent, this is what I'm trying in part to get away from here in NJ and btw I'm a 52yo man.

An experienced oil and gas accountant with a quality resume in Houston can make $100k with bonus. I moved to Austin in 2008 because I loved that city so much. But accountant jobs there paid $40k and I couldn't get one.

I ended up taking a seasonal job at the IRS for $16 per hour and came back to Houston in 2 years. I doubt there are higher paying accountant positions in the USA than Oil in Gas in Houston.
