Charleston or Mount Pleasant are great options for you to consider.

There is a mini silicon valley springing up in Charleston. We need more technical savvy people moving here, but I think they will come. Check out the Digital Corridor website to see what is going on as far as that goes.

Boeing is bringing in a lot of jobs as well. There have been many companies moving to the Charleston/Mount Pleasant/Summerville area just to support Boeing. They recently bought more land so guessing they will be doing even more.

There are lots of communities in Charleston area that have deep water access to if boating is a passion. There are also lots of marinas for boat storage and lots of boat landings if you prefer put your boat in yourself.

Communities to consider:

Downtown Charleston if you want to walk to restaurants. 29401 zip is 2nd only to NYC as far as walkability.

Mount Pleasant has older and newer neighborhoods. The older more established are closer to downtown Charleston. The Old Village, Hobcaw Pointe, Cooper Estates, Creekside and the Groves. The newer ones close to downtown are I'on Village, Molasses Creek, Braemore and Olde Park. Other neighborhoods a little further out but still South of Hwy 41 are Belle Hall, Snee Farm, Brickyard, Watermark, Scott's Creek and Hobcaw Creek Plantation. Then you have new construction for the most part in Dunes West (one of oldest new development north of 41), Rivertowne, Hamlin Plantation, Darrell Creek and Carolina Park.

James Island: Stiles Point, Woodward Pointe, Riverland Terrace, Eastwood, Harborwoods

West Ashley: The Crescent, Wappoo Heights, South Windermere, Windermere, Moreland

There are many many more options, but this will give you an idea. Every area in Charleston has its own personality so spending the first few days driving around having lunch and dinner in nearby neighborhood spots is helpful. If schools are important then you can visit the Charleston County school website and each school has a report card.

Hope this helps!
