I'm currently living in Virginia Beach, VA. I got out of the military about a little over a year ago. I really want to settle down in Texas. I have income coming in, but I still want to work. Which city will I have my best chances of finding a job in IT? I'm also pursuing a degree in Computer Science. I have certifications in IT.

Will Houston, DFW, or SA be my best option?

Thank you

As a VMware Administrator in DFW, I can say that I see an abundance of IT jobs in the Irving/Dallas area.

I live in Fort Worth and don't see quite as many, but still plenty to choose from.

I would say there are plenty of IT jobs in all 3 cities. So ... my advice would be to research which city is more attractive to you to live in. Some people will argue about how different they are, others will argue about how similar they are. But, ultimately, it's up to your own personal tastes. So, i would say you should investigate some, hopefully visit, and make your choice. You are still young, so you can still change your mind later.

In all honestly certifications won't get you anywhere. You need a degree to be competitive in the marketplace in Dallas' IT field. That said, even with a degree you are a dime a dozen. You need a degree plus like 5 years experience.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but I have had friends in the same boat.

While I don't live or work in Texas (I do want to, someday), I want to thank you for your service to your country.

What kind of IT? Programming or networking or system admin... etc.

As said earlier, there are plenty of jobs in all the cities. Some cities will have a higher concentration in particular industries (Dallas is known for telecommunications, Houston oil/gas companies all have large IT departments in addition to scientific programmers), but they are all big cities. So if you are just looking for work, any one would suffice. If you want a specific type of work, then that's what would require research.

Definitely finish the degree. Some places will not hire without it.

You might check with Walmart and their employment board. It is actively seeking Veterans as an affirmative hiring action.
