Less moose.

More heat.

Less water.

More Texans.

What's hockey?

How would there be less water coming from landlocked Alberta to coastal Texas? Could you mean the availability of water for personal consumption?

Are there glacial rivers in TX?

If so the size of the Bow river?

The question was not which area has more glacial rivers. When comparing Calgary to Houston, the latter not only receives more rainfall but also has a greater volume of earth water in the vicinity and of course is next to the sea. So by what measure could Calgary have "more" water?

To the OP "this" is what you'll have more of.

To mm I was referring to the title of the thread and including TX vs Canada, not city vs city.

Sheesh.

What? Favoring facts over misleading statements?

Okay well the OP is clearly focused on Houston. Plus it makes no sense to make sweeping statements about Canada or Texas.

Texas is basically Alberta, with warmer weather, much more cultural diversity, much better food, and real cities! you'll be fine.

That is a basic untruth. A grossly misleading statement.

I think if there's a culture shock it will be from Latino culture. I'm guessing you'd move to Houston which has as many Latinos as whites in the metro area http://kinder.rice.edu/uploadedFiles...rse%202-13.pdf
A coworker who recently moved has mentioned many things over time. My take away is this...

Sticker shock goes both ways...housing is significantly cheaper (Calgary to Texas). Taxes are much lower overall (and specifically zero state income tax, mortgage interest and sales tax deductability from federal taxes, etc.). In general, goods and services are cheaper (e.g. gasoline, electronics, clothing, household goods) - in some cases significantly so as you have higher competition and choice here. This will more than make up for the health "insurance" plans down here (also consider that you won't have the long lines for MRI, CT Scans, etc).

Culturally...definitely more Latino, which tends to overshadow some of the others (e.g. Asian - of which Calgary seems to have thriving communities of). One other aspect he mentions is there is greater sense of "religiousness" in Houston, which I understand hits the mark better than saying it is more "conservative" here. However, Houston is a huge city, so it is rather diverse.

Judging by this guy (random sample of one - assuming he's "normal"), you should not have a problem in the transition. Welcome!
