I also hear more about Katy.

But I was born there and have family there. U of H and Rice have to go through the same things TCU and SMU go through. FBS schools located in large cities where they have to compete for attention with pro sports.

(Even though TCU does get far more press than either of those 3 schools in football)

I used to love to watch "Friday Night Lights" on NBC a few years ago. Granted, it was somewhat stereotypical but still it showed the passion that we Texans have for football. Also, one thing that no one has mentioned. Texas bands are the best, bar none!! When you have mega marching bands like Allen, Plano, Midland-Odessa, Austin as well as other HS in Texas that compete in UIL competitions, there is just a spirit there that can't be rivaled. Even when the football team is down, the spirit is still there when that band takes the field. In in some unfortunate cases, the band it the best part of the game. LOL I was in marching band and it is such a "high" to be out on that field and playing in front of a crowd.
Watching those college bands and their different styles, UT or A&M or Tech or Baylor, UNT , my alma mater! It doesn't get any better! Sorry, Ohio State!! Stanford may have geniuses but don't care for their band.
As far as the pros, as long as Jerry is running the Cowboys, I can't get enthused. We lived in DFW during the glory days in the late '70s. Wow, what a spirit and a different character. They are just not the same as those days IMHO.
