Finally, keep in mind that if the school you choose turns out to not be a good fit, you can transfer to one that does.
Dee promotes the piney woods of East Texas, hence the choices for the survey.

Interestingly, there is a trophy pistol that is held by the winner of the Stephen F vs Sam football game.

I've never been on the campus of Sam Houston but having started my education at SFA I would lean to selecting it for having had one of the best forestry schools just about anywhere. At least it was 48 years ago.

Apparently SFA is still a good forestry school, my brothers, grandson, is seriously considering SFA, two schools, one in Arkansas and the other in Washington State are his only other options, and fortunately for him money/tuition/grades will not be a limiting factor, so it wouldn't be SFA by default, lol

The first day I was on campus at SFA, I was introduced to the dean of the School of Forestry. Needless to say I was extremely impressed. There I took a forestry major with a wildlife option.

Unfortunately, or fortunately since I was later able to still find a good career in wildlife and biology, the dry New Mexico and west Texas climates, and an offer of a truck driving job while I attended classes drew me back to eastern New Mexico where I finished up in wildlife management and biology. It was the Air Force that had originally brought me out to New Mexico.

Sometimes I miss the deep Pineywoods when I talk to my brother and sister who still live over there near Lufkin.

Education + Forestry = SFA

Communications + Criminal Justice = SHSU

Those are, to a large degree, 'equivalent' schools in a lot of regards. SHSU used to be considered a 'commuter' school - a large percent of the students did not live on or near campus, and the weekends especially were 'dead' relative to someplace like UT or aTm. SFA did not have that reputation when I was in school, but I did not travel there near as much. Maybe times have changed, I don't know.

Now, as to programs - Criminal Justice or RTF, you go to SHSU, Forestry or Geology, you go to SFA. Not sure on other programs .

I visited both schools last year when my son was trying to decide on a college. We really liked SFA alot but he was not sure what he would do in the Nac during his downtown. Sam Houston was nice but took our visit right after school at let out and there were not many students on campus. His best friend did decide to attend Sam Houston due to him liking the campus and his dad lives in Houston. Like stated education and forestry is top rated at SFA. Criminal Justice top notch at SFA. My son decided Texas State was the best fit for him. UofH was second and SFA was his third choice.
