If Texas ever succeeds from the union, what city should be the capital of the new Texas Republic? Austin is great for a state capital, but for an independent nation, we'll need a bigger city with better infrastructure. I suggest Dallas:

-Excellent highway and transit infrastructure. 90+ miles of light rail. 2 world class airports.
-Primary business center with lots of Fortune 500 companies
-Great location near our new northern international border. Much more centrally located than Houston.
-Few natural disasters (little flooding, no hurricanes)

What do you think?

Brady. It is near the geographic center of Texas ( assuming the Republic has the same borders as the state ) and I don't think its good to have your capital in large city.

But I think it would be an even better idea to break the national government up so that it is located in several cities. For example have separate capitals for the Executive, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Supreme Court so that the government cannot develop an "inside the beltway" mentality.

Oh yay... another secession thread, and another person who spells "secede" as "succeed".

Lovely.

Moderators, can a moratorium please be put on these ridiculous secession threads or at least directed into the "Politics & Other Controversies" section?? Secession is obviously a controversial topic as it is a very anti-American idea and has no place in the Texas forum.

There is very little that could be more apropos to the 'state' of Texas than the success of secession.

I'd go with Waco for the capital city. Ann Richards would approve.
