If it happens it'll dispel the belief that Texas has done enough to diversify the state's economy since the last oil bust in the 80s.

... "Fingers Crossed" that the TEXAS economy is now diversified-enough to weather any oil-fueled downturn. I guess we'll find out, huh?

Looks like a good test of our economic resilience. Let's do this.

Some oil producers have shut down due to the falling price of crude. Texas learned its lesson in the mid-80's crisis and diversified. There may be some recession effects but the state will survive. Then the price of crude will rise, creating a larger economy on top of the one that will have survived.

Texas' economy is too diversified to take a serious hit IMO.

It depends on the part of Texas.

If oil goes bust, South Texas and especially Midland will bottom out. Houston will also take a big hit.

Dallas and Austin arent really players in the oil trade so it wont effect them as much. Especially Austin.

Things will get real ugly in the Petroplex and the Permian Basin where I live if this actually becomes a bust.

Perhaps Texans will migrate en masse to California again?

That would be funny. I think Californians would be pissed if they saw thousands of Texas plates migrating back to The Golden State, like California doesn't have enough traffic as it is. But if it does happen it just means less traffic for us.
