Wife & I visited San Antonio and Hill Country last Sept. We drove west from New Braunfels and then north to Johnson City. Somewhere along that stretch of Hwy 281 there was a sizable multi-story building on the east side and visible from the road. I wondered what the building was. Kind of forgot about it but recently saw a photo of it on TX Country Reporter. Can anyone enlighten me about the building and specific location.

It's a resort/hotel. There are signs for it, but they are pretty small and easy to miss.

Christie,
I've been looking for the building on Google Earth, but have been unable to find it from above. What town is it nearest? Any info on the name of the place?

Is it the old Russian Orthodox Monestery near Blanco? Several "monks" were busted for sexual assault of a child sbout 8 years ago. I found an article that someone bought it in 2010 but I'm not sure he still owns it. We noticed it last summer on the way to Marble Falls. There is a vacation billboard at the base of the hill it's on. Not sure that's what you saw but it's certainly big and on the east side if 281. My ex sister-in-law dragged my brother there once to see the (fake) crying icon. He said it was creepy and weird.

Don't know ddeel. Seems like it had features like "turrets" on the building corners though. That use could be consistent with the building style.

Ddell, I think it's not the former monastery. I read a little about it & it sounds like it was northwest of Blanco and likely west of 281.

Was it on top of a hill? If so it might be one of the Lighthouse Hill Ranch vacation rentals.

Guess I saw what you saw and assumed it was the monastery since I knew it was in the area.

You may be right biscuitmom! For some reason, I pictured a rectangular building with four "turret" style corners. Could be my memory blended the lighthouse tower with the "arch" building. Interesting. Maybe I better understand Brian Williams thing. Nope, never mind...

Thanks for this! Also thanks to Google Earth and their street view which may ground level perspective possible.
