We had snow 2-3 times in the 5 years total I lived in Wichita Falls (2007-2012). One snow event was around Christmas Eve in 2010 or 11, iirc, and it snowed about 8 inches. I couldn't leave the house for 4 days.....

Even North Central Texas in the Metroplex gets its fair share. We got 3-4 snowfalls this winter.

Even Corpus Christi, on the gulf, occasionally gets some snow. Photos here: One Christmas Snow on an Island

El Paso rarely will get a dusting of snow, but it doesn't last long. Last winter I think it snowed once and melted by the afternoon. And it is three hours to Ski Apache from here. I wouldn't call that a short drive. Besides, if someone wants to move to a place with real "Texas culture", then El Paso would certainly be the wrong place.

It's been a few years, but the last winter I lived there it snowed practically every weekend. And several times over the years the snow was such that I had a hard time getting up to my house on the mountain. Maybe global warming has affected it now.
