Good news. It is a step forward.

Unfortunately, there is little chance anything will change.

From Bill to legalize recreational marijuana use in Texas clears House committee | abc13.com

"The Republican Party is opposed to it. Constant with our party platform, I think it's dead on arrival if it reaches the House or Senate floor," said Former Rep Party Chairman Jared Woodfill.

All it did was clear one committee in one of the two chambers. Nothing to get excited about yet.

I was surprised that it even made it this far. However the article states "has virtually no chance of clearing any other hurdles on the path to becoming law in this year's legislative session."

It won't likely pass.

I'm pretty ambivalent to legalization. If it happens, fine. If not, that's ok too. Data coming out of colorado doesn't indicate much boost to the economy, nor does it reduce crime.

Well, if anything can sway Texas Republicans to change their minds, lord knows its the potential for profit. The problem is that lots of them already have ways of profiteering off of the current system, what with private prisons and all.

A step in the right direction, but I highly doubt that the right wing nutso's in this state will actually allow sensible legislation like this to pass.

Thanks for the info graphic.

The 41% statistic underscores my contention that legalization will not cripple the cartels.

Medical use only, we already have enough stoned drivers on beer/liquor. Don't need added pot stone heads as well, you think? lol
