Does anyone know where there is a low crime rate in the RGV? I checked on the city-data website, and it says Mission has a high rate of crime, but some of the posts say it doesn't and now I'm really confused and don't know what to believe. Also, I have an 8 year old son and I would need a good school district.

To get away from the crime you have to be in a home owners asso. with controlled ingress egress. The dope ect is a ***** down there.

I have lived in Edinburg for 8 months now, we dont live in a gated subdivision, I have yet to see a crime being commited. The city has been great, I have never felt threatened or even worried for my safety. Choose a city on what you see when you visit, not what some web-site stats are leading you to believe.

What people don't understand is that a vast majority of the crime here is theft and burglary. Not saying that is a great thing, but it beats having a high violent crime rate. The drug busts are big here but mostly people transporting from Mexico.
As for schools, I would definately look into Edinburg. Mission is smaller so your options will be limited. We live in Donna, but use our families address so the kids can go to school in Weslaco for that very reason.

Default which part of the Valley

We are retiring and wonder which town in the Valley would be the safest. We would like to live in a 55+ community of Mobil Homes. Any ideas or info on the area?

Macmember, there are a ton of places for retirees here. Winter Texans are probably the safest group of people around here. They bring so much to the economy around ehre that the locals cater to them. It sounds weird, but even the criminals stay away from them.

Unless you are moving into the upper scale neighborhoods of Mission like Cimarron, I would say Edinburg hands down is a good choice.
Edinburg schools are just as full, but crime there is lower per capita, it seemed like.
Not to mention traffic into and out of Mission on 83 has become a nightmare from what I hear.
