Why do people forget Reality Bites? Generation X, post grunge.

Who did not know a guy like Ethan Hawkes character in Montrose/Museum District Houston, or ALL of Austin circa early 2000s? The proto-hipsters. Real hipsters shopping at thrift stores before it was cool, dumpster diving and listening to bands like Le Tigre, Pedro the Lion, Jets to Brazil, Get up Kids, Yo La Tengo, Pixies!

Reading the early editions of Texas Travesty. C'mon people, I know you're out there. You voted Green and whatnot!
LOL

Boyhood, great for contemporary life. Reality Bites captures that post-grunge, proto hipster life that I saw come alive late 90s-early 2000s. Ethan Hawke reminded me it every guy in Austin circa 2003.

I'm no "Texpert" but these are my favorites. Huge fan of Liklater and Judge.

"Boyhood" was amazingly well done. It captured well the life of many working class children in America today, but it did have a Texas flavor to it.

There is a film about a young Southern Baptist man who is a youth pastor at his church. His mom is quite devout. His dad, not so much. Predictably, they are divorced. He is about to attend a Baptist college in TX (sounds like Baylor, but they don't say) when he visits his dad who lives in a trailer park and is a bit of a bohemian.

Dad has an old friend who can get him into a well respected, but very counter culture college - Reed in Portland OR. With interesting results.

Now I remember. It's called "Blue Like Jazz".

Here's an old one "The Last Picture Show".

Let's not forget that Judge brilliantly captured small town Texas life to a tee with king of the hill.

Those writers have to be from Texas. The little nuances and quirks of texans and stuff only texans know about was wild. I always love watching the show and seeing them get a lot of stuff pretty spot on.

I love those movies but Trejo is the worst actor, and I mean that in a hilarious way. Check how many scenes where he just appears from the side offscreen out of nowhere instead of filming him jumping in like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee, or any legitimate action hero.

Hud. Far and away the best movie about Texas and required viewing for any Texan.

"American Violet"-movie wasn't bad actually based on true events and i'm glad they highlighted that in the movie but the accents just wasn't there. It bugged the hell out of me the whole time.

True. Peope love the exaggerate Texas accents. I always say people would do better if they just spoke in their normal voices as oppose to sounding like someone out of a western.

"Jason lyric"-Hands down the worst Texas accents in any Texas related movie. As much time as they spent filming this movie in Houston you would think they would pick up on the accents.
Good movie, but very annoying at the same time. It painted Houston as some small podunk dead end town. The cast literally sound like they just walked right off the cotton fields and into civilization.

A bad accent will turn me completely off a good Texas movie.

Early 90s? That was still a thing up until 2003.
