Hell or High Water with Jeff Bridges came out in 2016 and is a pretty good movie. It is set in West Texas but evidently was filmed in New Mexico.

"The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" is set and filmed in Texas. Stars Dolly Parton, Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise. Its a holiday classic. If you enjoy campy vintage musicals like Little Shop of Horrors and the Rocky Horror Picture Show, you'll enjoy it.

"Rocky Horror Picture Show" opens up in Denton (Home of Happiness.) Here in Denton, there used to be the same billboard in the movie off the highway in the 90s and UNT screens it every October.

"Holes" is set in West Texas, though filmed in California. They originally considered shooting around Abilene, and I wish they would have.

"Office Space" is a classic, of course. Mike Judge also made King of the Hill. Can't get more Texas than that!

"Boyhood" is a good film, though long. Was filmed over the span of 12 years. Takes place in Texas, and it shows a very authentic view of suburban Texas in the 2000s. Its a very "general American" type film but with a Texas twang to it, so to speak.

"Django Unchained" surprisingly, I didn't see anyone mention this film. The later half I think is set in Tennessee but the first half in Texas. Shows Texas in the antebellum days. Like most of Tarantino's work, its an engaging cinematic roller coaster from start to finish.

I can't think of any "worst" that I seen. I can tell you of a crappy movie that isn't entirely set in Texas, but has a scene set there.. and its probably the most cartoonishly inaccurate depiction of the state.

Never heard of or watched until today. THANKS! Great Movie!

I think it would have been more popular had the film not ended with the two protagonists/lovers being siblings....

Such a great film that virtually no one has heard of. Really captures the dynamic of the borderland area like no other.

But that (especially how it was revealed, with amazing performances from Chris Cooper and Elizabeth Pena), gave the movie its power. It was the opposite of lurid or sensationalistic.

As far as Best Little Whorehouse is concerned, that was a dreadful musical made into a worse movie. But the original Texas Monthly story was compelling...I lived in Houston when Marvin Zindler made the reputation with the "expose" (old news to a lot of us).

Good movie.
I'll second this. I love this movie and have it in my collection.

I loved Bernie, as well as Hope Floats and Office Space. Also, Dazed and Confused. Oh and Dallas Buyers Club was also really good.

Oh and here are two sleepers that I also really liked and both really seemed to capture the essence of their Texas locations - The Apostle, and Tender Mercies.

Oh and Terms of Endearment! Goodness.
