If I couldnt live in those, Id leave Texas. I like Austin, but not for what it costs. San Antonio is cool for a visit but I wouldnt live there.

Born and raised in Texas but it's only 3 areas I'd seriously consider living in.

1. Houston( including a few burbs)
2. Dallas (including a few of Dallas burbs)
3. Austin (I'd live here if I got a good offer for a job but only because of that)

San Antonio,Ft.Worth and El Paso- I'll pass on those
smaller metros in Texas- Forget about it!

I don't like big, sprawling cities - I prefer living in a metro area of about 200,000 to 400,000 - not a SMALL town but not a huge city either.

But out of all the big Texas cities, I am proud of them and I think they each have a unique character. My favorites are Fort Worth and San Antonio/Austin. (I included both of them because their metro areas seem to just merge together and I like them both - San Antonio and Austin.)

I agree on the big sprawling cities and their character, but readily admit the choice to live in a small town is only a personal preference. I am fortunate to be able to live anywhere I want because of my job, so choose smaller places.

Have kids and other relatives in San Antonio, Lubbock, scattered all across DFW, the hill country, and around Houston, so am familiar with all those cities and areas. I just choose to live in relative isolation.

Thinking about a move in a few years though, maybe the Tyler area or the hill country, but haven't settled on anything yet, since there is no reason other than simply crafting a life in a new place.

Houston and San Antonio. Houston helps the needy, and poverty-based people all over the globe. San Antonio has the Tejano and Spanish settlement all over the city. For most people, Texas is the best option and has succeeded to a broad range of even sub-cities such as San Angelo, Harlingen, Brownsville, Beaumont, Lubbock, Laredo, and San Marcos.

Texas even has the Texas Triangle.
