It's expensive but it also provides the best standard and quality of life in every measurable category. For the average person a swede is probably better off.

Now the only way I can see a swede wanting to move to the US especially a red state would be that they're just looking for more. Sweden probably offers free higher education, higher wages and such so to attain certain things like a college degree are probably easier. If one has no loans after graduating and gets a nice practical degree from say Upsala then they can actually command a high salary in the states and start off at a higher level than the average American joe.

It's a no brainier. I have a Chilean American friend who ditched working in the states to go live in chile for a few years because he was offered a higher salary then he was here in LA. Chile is by no means a dirt poor country, its burgeoning on first world, so it's a better deal for him. As an American he starts off at a higher level than most Chileans.

This is how I imagine thr scenario must be. But it doesn't bode well for Americans.

Maybe, but I have a hunch they aren't that keen on the country getting browner by the day and the bennies going that way.

It is what it is.

Where in the blue hell did that "hunch" come from given the OP? All they asked about is how hard it would be to find a job in Texas as Swedes and from that there is a hunch that they are raging racist/nationalist/xenophones who are trying to escape brown people? And, this is the best part, they are going to escape brown people by moving to TEXAS?

So they plan on moving to a country full of non Swedes and even more "brown" people? On top of this, Europeans dont even have this stupid view on race that Americans do. They dont consider someone else whos white and from another country to be "like them".

If you have a college degree and speak English you will find good jobs! If you both work full-time your household income should allow you a very comfortable lifestyle.

One thing about IT is that it is very difficult for companies and cities outside the very large cities to find people who will stay. You might check mid sized cities governments for openings. Spanish is incredibly helpful in finding a job most places as well.

The Texas Workforce Commission has a job listing service at https://wit.twc.state.tx.us/WORKINTE...kiecheckflag=1 where you can put a resume in and check job listings currently 250,000 jobs posted.

Texas is pretty big / broad and semi diverse in climate and jobs.

1) What do you want out of TX? (apparently you have been here to visit... what do you like / dislike)

Dallas will have the most career opportunities (and is HUGE). It is not my favorite part of TX and a lot of people are there due to the jobs. I have several friends that like it there. Probably for highest pay, Dallas area will provide most career options/

2) Youthful and adventurous?, consider a region with a lot going on and access to many TX recreation options. Austin / San Antonio seem to fit that, central to much in TX, and reachable to the coast and Houston. (and Dallas for long weekends). There are some good potential career options in each city. Austin is very popular and will have rents to match. SA is a bit more 'family / military' but some good career options as well. I would try to get on with SBDC center at https://sasbdc.org. That can get you access to a lot of businesses / research and enable a benefit to your resume, training, and career. there are several other large employers in SA area to support military retirees / staff. (USAA) your foreign language and business experience will be a benefit to several employers. Build on your strengths and add some more!

I get SO tired of the perpetuation that Austin is the sole city in the state where "open mindedness" (whatever that means) exists. Austin is truly one of my least favorite cities in TX. The restaurants are better in DFW as is the traffic situation. Good luck making friends if you move there and you aren't a rich white hipster!

Also- my husband works for a Swedish company and travels there several times a year. He loves all different cuisines/ ethnic dishes but other than the pastry snacks during Fikke Paas (coffee break) and the actual coffee- he says the food is bland bland bland. We are not averse to pickled/ fermented foods either. He does enjoy the beer but misses good wine with dinner when he is there (and so do all the Spanish/ French coworkers who also don't care for the food- it's not just my American).

Strong words. Why do you say all of that?

European countries are very rich in culture and many other things, but they are also small and completely gentrified. The class structure is very, very entrenched and it's hard to be upwardly mobile. So if your dreams are bigger than what you could ever realistically achieve in your "class" in Sweden, you've got to move to a place like the USA.

And Texas is like the "land of opportunity" in the land of opportunity. Not much to stop a hard working, ambitious person from going from the bottom to the top here. No entrenched families controlling everything, no neighborhoods where everything has been owned by the same people for decades, no lockout on jobs or opportunities for those who haven't lived here forever. It's all pretty open, everyone is basically a transplant/newcomer, as level of a playing field as you can get. You have total control over your destiny (as much as that can exist).

Honestly, any of the major Texas metros will be fine for the OP. It's a question of personal preference. Dallas and Houston may excite you if you want to experience giant American cities full of opportunity. San Antonio may be the ticket if you enjoy the unique mixing of US and Mexican cultures, along with a little more history than the rest of the state. Austin might be the best if you like its particular niche culture, education, safety and friendliness (the friendliness really applies to any Texas city, though).
