I have been doing research because I am trying to decide between Austin and Houston Metro for future move.
A close relative worked for United States Steel at a corporate office in California in the 1970s. They had dealings with US Steel's Texas Works, located in Baytown, over the phone and in person. Around the office, Baytown (the city, not the steel plant) was held in pretty low regard.

Galveston Home prices are decent you can get a nice home under $300k part of the city has some crime and some are much safer. Even though it is on the coast you get a really big hurricane like once ever 10 to 14 yrs and you live on the Island and maybe work in Texas City La Marque or Dickinson

Here is all the info you need on Galveston

I think many, many people would say "I love to visit Galveston but would not want to live there".

What wrecks it for families is the school system there. You either have to go to Ball, or pay to go to a private school. If you have to do that, it certainly isn't a cheap place to live.
