Then:
Dallas most dangerous large city, FBI says

[i][Dallas] police have employed a variety of methods during the last five years of recording how offenses are reported, which has helped to lower the crime rate on paper. [/

I'm not disagreeing that Dallas skews their crime reporting statistics.

But did you even bother to read the report in your link? It's from 2006 --- the data is 10 years old!!!!

Exactly... as in a decade ago they were still reporting accurately, but more recently they are under-reporting and/or skewing.

First of all, a robbery (violent) and burglary (non violent) are two different things that people often confuse. People committing property crimes generally do not want to be caught so avoid bothering people or drawing attention at all costs.
Second, if a property crime, theft or vandalism turned into something violent/dangerous such as an assault, robbery or threat (considered verbal assault), the crime would be reclassified as such in the police report or a separate report would be created.

Austin does have high property crime. But I suspect the other categories weren't as high, thus the lower ranking.
you're missing the point. in the example that happened to me, it was clearly a "burglary." Do you think what happened after that to us was not dangerous? I called the police, they usually didn't do anything. A couple times they came out and of course the people disappeared so they couldn't do anything even if they were prepared to. My report was not reclassified because the nature of the original crime did not technically change. And there was no additional report since they never charged anyone. In the stats all there is a non violent "burglary." Does that tell the whole story... NO.

I'm shocked there are people here like you trying to rationalize and justify burglaries in crime stats. you can perform all the mental gymnastics you want -
IT'S NOT A GOOD THING
