Hmm...these are all remote small-midsize cities. I am wondering what makes some areas in these cities unsafe?

Hello Westerntraveler,
I understand that violent crime makes it dangerous.
But what are the reasons for violent crime in Odessa?

Demographics looks OK. And normally smaller cities are less dangerous.

There were 43,687 housing units at an average density of 995.1 per square mile (384.2/km²). Hello Ghost town.....well traditionally Odessa has been home to the roughnecks and the rough and tumble unsavory characters who work the oilfields. Now, a lot of them are desperate due to oil prices. Also, narcotics are real big in Odessa.

Westerntravler,
Again I appreciate your assistance. I hear Odessa has high crime, but there are parts of the City, where homes are 300k and above (Zillow). The areas adjacent to University of Texas, surely these areas are safe, why would the prices be this high?

Anytime Joeng99 Im glad I can help you.Day to day living in Odessa is still pretty safe for the most part.Yes, the areas around UTPB are desirable.Well they are high because real estate has not crashed from the high prices of the boom.
