Hi everyone, I'm here because i am planning on leaving Connecticut within the next year to year and a half, and Texas is high on my list of places to move to. With that said, obviously i have a few questions. I'm a 29 year old single guy, so I'm definitely looking for a place with or at least close to somewhere with a decent night life. I love sports, HUNTING, FISHING, hiking, and all that good stuff so I am looking for an area that is good for all my hobbies so definitely not a city. As for work, I'm basically a laborer (forklift operator) working two jobs (in home caretaker is the other), so I'm looking for more of a working class/blue collar area. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Also any questions I can answer or info I left out feel free to ask.

I would live just outside of Houston. Many great areas. You'd fit right in. Come on down.

You may also want to consider the outskirts of San Antonio.

Any of the exurbs outside the city of Houston or San Antonio would be fine. There are msjy to look up but you could be secluded in an area such as Spring or Fulshear and be near the freeways to the major city. In San Antonio you'd have excellent job opportunities as the city ranks in the top for job growth and low unemployment. It's near some really good lakes to fish in. It's hill country is excellent for hikes and it's less costly then Austin. I know there is a great exurb out there but it escapes me now.

The further west you go, the longer you will have to travel to fishing spots. Waco, Temple, Corsicana, Tyler, Longview are places you may want to investigate.

Are you really sure you're willing to give up access to so many large cities in the Northeast? A lot of Northerners claim to want a more rural area, but when they actually make the move, they realize that they miss the access to cities and amenities.

I thought I would enjoy living in a town of 20,000 people in Missouri because I was tired of city traffic, crime, and prices. But when I actually moved there, I hated it.

You'll have acces to cities in Texas. Waco isn't that far to Dallas.

Right, but there is a big difference between cities in the South/Southwest and cities in the Northeast. Some Northeasterners aren't prepared for it.

What? Dallas/FW, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin are pretty big cities. Why would northeasterners be shocked? Unless they're entitled to certain things I don't think the OP would have a problem. Practically speaking what would a northeastern city such as Boston or Philly have that Houston or Dallas wouldn't?
