Hey Guys!!! I have been reading so much about relocating from NY to Houston, austin etc. Overall i have a general idea about the situation. But i know each thread is kind of personalized thats why i decided to make my own thread. So heres my story, I am mainly moving for the weather in texas. i was born in a tropical country and honestly, getting tired of the snow/cold and the ratrace in NY. I am a registered nurse who currently work in a community hospital operating theater. I love the OR and i wanted to see if you guys can recommend some good paying hospitals in houston/austin areas. Hopefully it isnt that hard for me and my spouse (who is also an RN) to get a job there. I would like to be at 20 mins, maximum 30 mins away from work. I have allergies, but not terrible. I heard austin is better for allergies than houston? Hows quality of life in Houston as compared to long island NY? how about houses? currently i have a mortgage in NY. me and my wife are hoping to find a small updated house, which is away from floodzone and etc, after selling our house which we bought for 450k. how much downpayment do they usually require, what about closing fees? what are some good areas with good school districts, as we will b expecting babies soon. what about parents? if they are retired/notworking, will they get medical insurance? is it safe for my parents (57 yrs old) to move also from ny ? My father has a good paying job in Transit Authority with good benefits, hes concerned about moving, and worried about getting a good job in Texas. i hope u guys can help me go throuh this phase of my life. thanks to all wellwishers in advance.
