I am going to pull the trigger on one of these in the next year and am posting this in the three areas' forums. By then, it will be just me and the Warden. And my little dog too.

I was born in South Florida almost 60 years ago. It used to be a nice place and still is in most regards. But it is not for me anymore. I am looking for semi rural area with a little acreage. On my budget I can get anywhere from 5 acres to 100 acres depending on the area. I want to run a small farm or ornamental nursery with a few hens and perhaps some other animals.

Each area offers something just a little different and nothing is perfect. The weather in Texas and FL might get too hot or too cold but Hawaii would be just right. Politics in FL and Texas would suit me more than the majority in Hawaii. I live in SoFla so I'm used to liberal politics. I like to be more independent but not out in the remote sticks. North Cent FL is more like my current home but I would like something different.

Has anybody been to any of these areas?

Any recommendations?

Any horror stories?

Not sure this is the right thread for these questions. But i can tell you that Texas Hill country will not be impressive if you come from a mountain state.

First choose climate, they are all very different.
Then...
Choose the area most supportive and ezst on your choosen hobby. That would be HI.

Personally, as a PT commercial grower.... Water is crucial. I don't do humidity, and I don't do state income tax, so.... FL or WA state would work for water, climate, no income tax.

My Hill Country home is empty from June till Oct. I am in PNW during the 80 days of great summer weather.
