Fredericksburg/Luckenbach/wineries/Pedernales Falls. There's an impromptu jam session at Luckenbach most nights - that's really cool. You could explore the other areas during the day and chill out at Luckenbach in the evening. Also, if you like German food, there are some really good German restaurants in Fredericksburg.

Run on over to the Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels one day.

We just got back from a little three day trip down there - we do that about once a year. Love the scenery and towns west of Austin and San Antonio.

3 top choices. As noted above New Braunfels and Fredericksburg (there is a lot to do around Fredericksburg). Also id add Wimberley if you like quaint with nice scenery.

What time of yr?

Search Hill Country events to find something you enjoy, and also may want to avoid. Such as Kerrville music fest is pretty huge, as is Fredericksburg Car Shows and Memorial events at WW2 museum of Pacific. Bandera hassome big events, and you might want to attend, but avoid staying in Wimberely on their flea market dates.

There are many great events, pick your favorite, book early. I would consider staying in a more Rural town than NB.
Comfort, TX is great if you like antiques, (and quiet sleeping/ sleepy town) and is close enough to Boerne, Fredericksburg, Bandera for events / activities. If you like more action or night life... Stay in the above. NB is pretty BIG / suburban, but has lots to do.

There are also working, game, and dude ranches for rural stays.

Christmas events in Fredericksburg, Johnson City, and Bourne are pretty nice

All good choices above. When in Fredericksburg, don't miss Enchanted Rock.
