Dan Patrick's spokesman reported that a pair of insensitive Twitter and Facebook posts that went out early this morning under the Lieutenant Governor's account were automated and not a reaction to the Orlando nightclub shooting.

Quote:
On Facebook and Twitter, Patrick shared a graphic with a Bible verse that read: "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." The posts came amid news that 50 people died in the Orlando shooting, making it the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

I have a couple thoughts on this:

1) I tend to believe that these tweets were automated, but still, it's a big enough flub that I feel a statement from Patrick himself is needed. Anything less is suspiciously coy.

2) Why those verses? There are much better and much more inspirational and much less galvanizing parts of the Bible. In my experience with evangelicalism (which is extensive), those verses are almost always a precursor to fire-and-brimstone type sermons, not the kind of thing a politician should ever be associated with, no matter how radical his voting base might be.

You should have anything automated, as a political leader it's beyond foolish IMO to take that risk. It is an interesting post given his background though and one that he should have already addressed

Yeah, the longer he waits to make a statement, the more I doubt the automation story. Truly sickening.

What a hateful sick person. And to lie about what he did because of people responding to it......He will someday get what he sows.

Reddit houston has a pretty good posting about this. Apparently for this being "automated" it went out at a different time and didnt note it being the sunday message like his past ones. Man is a hateful bigot so this response would not be strange.

Wont see this on any local news though. Or any of the other scandals running with the governor's office right now

He issued a statement. He didn't even apologize for insensitivity or negligence, and instead gave us 10 Bible verses. He would have gained some respect if he'd apologized for the misunderstanding, but he blamed everyone else for not having studied Galatians 6 beforehand (), and said he deleted the post to protect Christians' sensibilities. The insolence is truly staggering.

Wow, I didn't see his response to the tweet. And yeah, since when can you "automate" a tweet? Not to mention, why would anyone pre-program a "tweet schedule" to post certain things on certain days in the future? No way.

Trumps responses werent much better, trying to use the attack to spread ignorance towards immigration and Muslims. Too bad the shooter was born in New York (and could be argued, given testimony from family/ex wives that he was hardly a religious person).

Speaking of, did y'all see the posts Westboro Baptist Church made about the shooting? "God sent the shooter into Orlando *** club" and remixing some song that they titled "Shooters keep comin' around" with the words "I ain't gonna be an optimist / You were caught up and lost in rage and more crisis / Marry **** as the blood flowing around you / And the shooters keep coming around in the cities that you love / Much blood flowing in the streets bringing God's wrath from above /And then he blinds your eyes..."

Yeahh.. If some radical "Islamist" is representative of the Muslim people, then Westboro Baptist is representative of Christianity... Which anyone with common sense can see is not the case.

This whole thing is sickening.

Not saying his tweet was automated or not because I do not know nor do any of y'all, but you can definitely schedule tweets.
