Because to some people, Texas represents every negative American stereotype. Big trucks, huge parking lots, ginormous homes, rednecks, racists, boring suburbs. Other states have these aspects as well, but because Texas is so outgoing, we hear about it more.

There is one thing that does annoy me and is true. Just like California and New York, because Texas is so big, it has a lot of pull/influence. When the state tries to do something dumb, EVERYONE knows about it. Remember hearing about NY wanting to ban large soft drinks, remember Texas wanting to introduce Christianity in public school curriculum? If North Dakota did these things, I doubt we'd ever hear about it.

Supposedly Texas is where all of the "crazies" live, but I've seen way more crazy people in California and Florida than here. Actually, I've found way more sane people here than other places I've lived.
