Dr. Pepper is surprisingly famous; I'd say right after Coke. I see it in lots of movies.

Lived in Boston about 8 years. First week there learned that serving iced tea in restaurants was "seasonal." Nearly broke my heart!
I asked for iced tea at a restaurant in Ohio and they gave me hot tea and a cup of ice!

But I find it ridiculous when restaurants around here don't have sweet tea. They give me regular tea like mixing in a packet of sugar is going to make it taste the same! If they can't good old fashioned Southern sweet tea they need to get out of my state.

The Waco plant makes it with real sugar, not just the one in Dublin

Long before Dubya, my daughter and I were in London and saw that the little cafe we were in offered canned Dr Pepper. We were most excited.

All I can say is, do not, do NOT, order Dr Pepper in London if you're used to the real thing. You'll regret it.

Just stick to single malt Scotch.

Great story, FB! Matches that one I mentioned earlier of my friends experience completely.
That's strange, we get Dr. Pepper here in the UK, and have done for years. Had no idea it was a Southern US thing...

It isn't, anymore. But at least up until the 70's, it was pretty much a Texas/Southern soft drink in terms of relative sales per capita in the United States.

LOL

Any true Texan will instantly and almost instinctively gather 'round and listen to a somebody who says something like:

Hey, lemme tell y'all 'bout that time that my daddy and his uncle Troy went out one night and....well, 'fore I start, any of y'all want a coke?

If the above comes across as Greek, then you ain't a Texun! If it makes perfectly good sense, then pull up a chair, fellow Texans, and I'll tell the story....

I'm sorry, but I've had Dr Pepper in the UK, or what passes for it. If you're ever in Texas, stop by and I'll treat you to a Dublin Dr Pepper - or even a regular one - and you'll see what it's supposed to taste like.

I do think it's sort of like Scotch - what KIND of water you use to mix it makes a major difference. So we can't have a true single malt Scotch experience here (unless, like me, you drink it straight) because the water's different (sob!), and the same holds for Dr Pepper there.
