I like to vacation in Austin but living there just aint my cup of tea or at least not in the city proper.Traffic is real bad and cost of living is really high.

A person could probably learn a lot more about Austin by perusing the Internet. Even the "Keep Austin Weird" stuff would be better shown in pictures and on developed web pages. It would be hard for us to do it justice with black and white print. Some towns and areas are too colorful to try to describe with just words (too sterile of an approach).

This web site set up by the man who coined the phrase "Keep Austin Weird" (I still have one of the original free bumper stickers he had made and handed out, somewhere up in the attic) will explain that to you. No, it's not a marketing term for local business.

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there and I never like to drive there!

its an overall cool texas city. many Texans would say its a tad overrated bc Austin is definitely hyped. many around the country view Austin positively but other large tx cities less desirable. to me, younger Austin locals (especially those aren't even from Austin and moved there after high school) think theyre much cooler than people from other texas cities and wouldn't dare move anywhere else unless it was out of state.

I like visiting for the music festivals and other events the city hosts bc thats to me when Austin is electric. any other regular day will consist of congestion, and high cost of living. no need to be there then. I can have just as fun in my city of san antone

It's a fun city to visit. My twenty something year old son lives down there and loves it - but it's definitely a party town with a high cost of living and lots of traffic.

The area around it is intriguing and I like the Hill Country but I wouldn't want to live in the city of Austin.

With the exception of great nightlife, it being pretty close to a 24 hour city, low crime, and great outdoor opportunities, it is just like any other major city. High COL, (higher than anywhere else in TX and most of the US), major congestion, and sprawly.

It is a great city and I love living here. But there isn't anything that differentiates it from any other major US city.

And that's a sad, sad thing, because it used to be very different and watching it moved closer to homogeneity has been painful.
