Hi, everyone! I need a little native Texan insight, please and I know you guys are such a nice, helpful bunch. My SO works in the oilfield, just recently got back to work in New Mexico with a promotion, and we were looking to relocate somewhere in the triangle. We've visited Houston many times and initially considered moving there, but I think it's a bit too big for my taste. We also love the Webster area.

We have a 14 month old son and I want to go back to school, so I would really like somewhere safe, but with a good university like College Station. I had good grades in high school/a good ACT score, but not good enough to get into somewhere like Rice or UT-A for sure. Any ideas? College Station sounds perfect to me, but I've never actually been there to know what it's like.

Which triangle are you referring to? There is the Golden Triangle in SE Texas. And some people from out of state refer to Houston - DFW - Austin / San Antonio as a triangle, but that is not something you hear often from native Texans. You probably want to live close to whatever school you want to attend. Texas A&M is not really close to the majority of Houston, for example.

Check out San Marcos. Texas State is located there. It's still relatively small, but also convenient to Austin, San Antonio, and the best of the Hill Country.
