I want to move to texas from California, tired of this madness and desire a slower life. I love guns, simple life and oil....since I work in a refinery. I do have the opportunity to transfer to refinery in sweeney, but the flooding concerns me. I know media is good at making things look worse than it really is, can anyone give some good idea what it's really like? Most likely I would live in lake jackson or angleton....maybe rosenberg.

Houston's flooding is generally localized in places that are low lying AND have poor drainage, they are seldom widespreaad flooding of the general area. I think the last widespread flood in Houston was 2001

As for Rosenberg, Richmond and the areas you are interested in, the "Tax Day Flood" of 2016 mostly affected places directly along the Brazos River. Places more than a quarter mile from the river were in general fine.

I don't really have a budget, more concerned with keeping wife safe while I'm at work and not having to spend over 35 minutes commuting to work.

I think it will come down to what your wife's needs are for neighbors and community life. Most of the small towns around Sweeny offer less expensive properties, with acreage, but little in terms of community activities, and kind of a hike to a supermarket.

Lake Jackson is the biggest and most whole community in that area. Sargent is a great beach and fishing town that an easy commute, but not much else. You might want to look at Needville..Rosenberg and Richmond are much larger, and can have problems with crime.
