We are moving in a few months to Laredo due to work relocation. We're coming from Brownsville and have been there just for a year (before that we've always lived in SE Asia). I have 3 kids who (in the next s.y) are going to be a senior, freshman, and 8th grade.

What are the safe parts of Laredo? Is it a concern that the border is a few minutes away? I saw that it has a higher crime rate than Brownsville. How bad is it? We've had no problems in Brownsville as the people are friendly and it's quiet (atleast where we live).

How are the high schools and middle schools? Which schools are safe? Which ones have a more challenging curriculum? My kids are kinda bored and say that the schoolwork here is easy compared to where we used to live. Would it be pretty much the same with Laredo?

You will find that Laredo has a lot of similarities with Brownsville including the streets. lol. Laredo is more like Brownsville than Mcallen. What Laredo doesn't have is the temperate weather (hotter) and it's proximity to the beach. It is also more isolated although it is a couple of hours drive from San Antonio. Yes it is the same.

From what I understand, you want United ISD, not Laredo ISD.
